About Me
My name is Helena and I am an aspiring cinematographer and photographer from Fort Collins, Colorado. Since 2007, I’ve been pursuing a BS in Film at the Boston University College of Communication and a BA in Hispanic Language and Literature in the College of Arts and Sciences. During the summer of 2009, I interned at LUA Multimedia, an independent television station in Madrid, Spain, and worked as an assistant to the principal editors. In the Spring of 2010, I interned at Clairmont Camera and Stun Creative in Los Angeles.
My main professional goal is to be a director of photography and I am excited for the challenge that comes along with working on a film set. I am part of a company called “Mountain Fish Productions,” formed in 2010 by Julian Broudy, Terrence James Smith and myself. David Brown Massey has recently joined the company, and we are looking forward to further productions in Los Angeles after graduation in May 2011. So far Mountain Fish has produced 6 short films: Demo, Eighty-Sixed, P.O.W., Topher, The Long Way and The Morning O. Check us out at www.vimeo.com/mountainfish/
Still photography has been a passion of mine for many years and I am currently working on a variety of DSLR HD shoots as well. My photography can be found at www.helenabowen.com, though, as many of you already know, I post one photo every day on this blog. I work with a Canon 7D and a Canon Rebel XS with a 18-55mm and 28-135mm Canon EF zoom lenses and 20mm, 60mm and 100mm prime Canon EF lenses. As you can tell, I am a huge fan of Canon’s products, and if you are looking for product recommendations or advice, please feel free to contact me.
In my free time, as you can imagine, I spend countless hours at movie theaters, in front of a TV and on Netflix instant doing “research” for my career. I review many of these movies and TV programs on this blog. I also greatly enjoy reading, traveling, spending time with my friends and exploring Boston. I grew up on a goat farm outside of Fort Collins, Colorado as an only child. My parents still have the goats as well as a beagle (Bagel), a corgi (Sofi), three cats (Kaboodle, Darwin and Klingon) and a guinea pig (Meara). I love hanging out with the pets when I come home and they are featured very heavily in the photos section of this blog. Aside from growing up in Colorado and going to school in Boston, I’ve also recently lived in New York City, Madrid, Spain, and Los Angeles. I am graduating in May 2011 and will be moving to Los Angeles with my Mountain Fish crew. If you are traveling to any of those cities, hit me up for recommendations.
I created this blog in 2009 as a way to share my experiences in LA with friends and family– however, this blog isn’t strictly professional as you can tell. Expect to see lots of photos (in my “365 Day Photo Project”), lots of movie reviews, tourism information and personal stories.
Thank you for reading!
